Jan 6 - No Visa? No Bangkok!

So our next stop was a 6 hour layover in Bangkok. We had big plans on jumping off the plane, flagging down the first taxi and zooming around the city for a quick tour. Those plans were quickly dashed when we realized that we needed travel visas to enter Thailand. Darnit. We could have applied on landing, but it just wasn’t worth it because of the time we would lose at the immigration office.

We wandered around the airport instead. Needless to say, it was a long wait. I started and finished a book. I only brought 4 books so that was a bad thing to do. We had some thai dished that were actually really good. You might roll your eyes at our selection, but we really wanted to know how these dishes are "supposed" to taste! We ordered Pad thai noodles, red curry, papaya salad and a thai iced tea. Everything was sooo good! Especially the papaya salad. It had these super crunchy long beans on the side that were a nice touch. The iced tea was a bit off for me. It tasted like it had cane sugar or tamarind syrup in it?? Michael says that that's how drinks taste in Taiwan. Hmm...I wasn't a big fan of the flavor.

We waited most of the time near our departure gates. We went there 10 mins before we were supposed to begin boarding. We got to the security desk and overhead it announced last call for our flight?! We were shocked. The sign next to our flight also blinked in red that it was final call. Yikes. We ran all the way to our departure gate only to see that nobody was boarding yet! How crazy. We ran for nothing (just another taste of the amazing race). Our plane taxied down the runway for a while. There were 6 planes all lined up waiting to use one take off lane. I've never seen that before and it was a bit surreal. Our plane this time was smaller and I sat beside a VERY smelly guy. He was all greasy and smelly so I was pretty grateful that the flight to Mumbai was only 5 hours long.
